Vega: the new-generation lightweight launcher

Upon its future service entry, the lightweight Vega will have an essential role within Arianespace’s family of launch vehicles – providing a tailored capability to carry the growing number of small scientific spacecraft and other lighter-weight payloads under development or planned worldwide. 

Vega’s target payload lift capability is 1,500 kg. on missions to a 700-km. circular orbit. It is to be operated from the former launch pad for Ariane 1 at Europe’s Spaceport, which is being upgraded and retrofitted to meet the new vehicle's mission requirements.
