Soyuz: the world's longest-operating launcher
Soyuz is one of the most utilized launchers to date, having been operated in more than 1,750 missions from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan and Russia’s northern launch site at Plesetsk Cosmodrome.
Its introduction at French Guiana will bring this venerable medium-lift vehicle into Arianespace’s growing launcher family – joining the heavy-lift Ariane 5 now operational at the Spaceport, and subsequently the lightweight Vega.
Soyuz launchers to be flown from Europe’s Spaceport are evolved versions that include an updated digital flight control system, an increased-performance third stage and the larger Soyuz ST payload fairing.
