Arianespace in CommunicAsia 2010

On the occasion of the CommunicAsia summit in Singapore from June 15 to 18, 2010, Arianespace reaffirms its position as the benchmark commercial launch services provider for the world’s leading satellite manufacturers and operators.

CommunicAsia 2010, the 21st International Communications and Information Technology Exhibition & Conference, is Asia’s international trade event for the global ICT sector and welcomes the industry professionals from more than 100 countries.

30 years of success

Since its founding, Arianespace has signed more than 300 launch Service & Solutions contracts – including eight new contracts in 2010 – and has launched 279 satellites for 76 customers from 101 countries, accounting for more than half of all commercial satellites now in service. In the coming months the Ariane 5 heavy launcher will be joined at the Guiana Space Center by the Soyuz medium launcher and the Vega light launcher. Arianespace will have a complete family of launchers, capable of launching all types of satellites for all customers.

Pace-setting technical performance

With 36 successful launches in a row over the last seven years, Ariane 5 has largely proven its technical maturity and operational capabilities. Arianespace set a new record for Ariane 5 in 2009, with seven launches during the calendar year, orbiting nine commercial satellites and three European government payloads. Arianespace will maintain this pace in 2010. On May 21, the 50th Ariane 5 launcher successfully orbited the ASTRA 3B and COMSATBw-2. On June 23, an Ariane 5 will loft into orbit two payloads: ARABSAT-5A and COMS.

Record backlog

Capitalizing on its range of launchers, Arianespace has won more than half of the commercial launch contracts open to competition worldwide in the last two years. This gives it a very healthy backlog, with contracts from 31 customers.

Since the beginning of the year Arianespace has signed eight contracts for the launch of geostationary satellites by Ariane 5, and five contracts to launch the first ten satellites in the Galileo constellation using Soyuz. Arianespace now has the largest backlog in the industry, with 35 satellites to be launched into geostationary transfer orbit using Ariane 5, six launches by Ariane 5 for the ATV cargo vessel to the International Space Station and 17 Soyuz launches.
