Arianespace signs contract with Oerlikon Space AG for 35 Ariane 5 fairings
Le Bourget, June 15, 2009
At the 48th Paris Air Show today, Jean-Yves Le Gall, Chairman and CEO of Arianespace, and Dr. Axel Deich, CEO of Oerlikon Space AG, signed the contract for 35 fairings that will be used on the 35 Ariane 5 launchers in the upcoming PB batch ordered by Arianespace.
Arianespace and Oerlikon Space AG have worked together since the beginning of the Ariane program. Fairings made by Oerlikon Space AG have been used on all 188 Ariane rockets launched to date. Oerlikon Space AG will also supply the fairings for Europe’s new Vega light launcher.
Commenting on this contract, Arianespace Chairman and CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall said: “Since the first Ariane launch in 1979, fairings by Oerlikon Space AG have been used on all Ariane launchers. The quality and reliability of these fairings have enabled us to carry out a wide spectrum of missions, from commercial launches into geostationary orbit to launches of scientific satellites into special orbits.
