Japan Week 2010 reception

Arianespace’s annual Japan Week reception in Tokyo gave the company an opportunity to reinforce customer relationships in this key market, underscoring its commitment to support Japan’s satellite telecommunications operators with reliable, flexible access to space.

Held at the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo hotel on April 21, the event hosted more than 220 guests representing most of the telecom and space communities – including a delegation from long-time Japanese customer Sky Perfect JSAT Corporation.
Arianespace has been entrusted with 17 SKY Perfect JSAT spacecraft for launch since the successful orbiting of Japan’s first commercial satellite – JCSAT-1 – in March 1989. Arianespace lofted JCSAT-12 on August 21, 2009 and has already signed a launch agreement for JCSAT-13, which will be orbited by an Ariane 5 in 2013 from the Spaceport in French Guiana.
In an upcoming mission, Arianespace also will launch the BSAT-3b satellite for Japanese operator Broadcasting Satellite System.
Although Arianespace Chairman & CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall was unable to attend the Japan Week 2010 reception due to air travel disruptions caused by Iceland’s volcanic eruption, he sent a video message for guests. Kiyoshi Takamatsu, Arianespace’s Japan Representative, translated Le Gall’s comments in Japanese.
As part of this year’s event, Arianespace highlighted the 30th anniversary of its creation as the world's first commercial space transportation company – with a special performance by traditional Japanese drummers marking the milestone.
