Edouard Perez, the Senior Vice President of Engineering at Arianespace, has been honored by the French Aeronautics and Astronautics Association (Association Aéronautique et Astronautique) for his space industry work – which has directly contributed to the Ariane launch vehicle’s continued success.
The 2010 French Astronautics Award was given to Perez during a ceremony this month, with the honor presented by French astronaut Jean-Pierre Haigneré; Michel Scheller, president of the Association Aéronautique et Astronautique; and Christian Mari, who heads the award jury.
Perez joined Arianespace in 1980 as the manager of cryogenic propulsion in the company’s Industrial Directorate. He subsequently was named as the head of complementary development for the Ariane 3 and Ariane 4 launchers, as well as development manager for the H10 Plus and H10 III third stages on the upgraded Ariane 4.
Another promotion came in 1995 with Perez’ appointment as the Industrial Director of Arianespace in 1995, followed by his selection as the company’s Senior Vice President of Engineering in 2001.
With his current responsibilities, Perez is tasked with overseeing the technical coherence and quality of Arianespace’s launch systems, with the goal of ensuring their reliability, availability and competitiveness. He also represents Arianespace’s top management in all circumstances that require a technical position on behalf of the company.
“Edouard Perez’ selection for the 2010 French Astronautics Award is a high-level recognition of one of the Ariane program’s most important managers,” said Arianespace Chairman & CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall. “His competence, devotion and the relevance of his judgment plays an important role in the success of Arianespace.”
