The “Satellite Executive of the Year” is honored at an Arianespace-sponsored reception
March 17, 2010
Arianespace’s participation at the Satellite 2010 conference included a reception today in honor of the industry’s executive of the year – CapRock Communications Chief Executive Officer Peter Shaper.
The Arianespace-sponsored evening reception, held at National Harbor’s Gaylord Convention Center in Maryland, brought together several hundred Satellite 2010 attendees for the four-day conference’s major social and networking gathering.
Shaper was named the Satellite Executive of the Year for 2009 by Via Satellite magazine, which has bestowed this distinction for more than two decades based on contributions to satellite markets, technologies, business practices or service innovations. CapRock is a global satellite communications provider for the energy, maritime, government, engineering and construction and mining sectors, as well as for disaster recovery services.
Arianespace Chairman & CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall, who was the 2005 Satellite Executive of the Year, introduced Shaper during remarks at this evening’s reception.
“The winner of this award often happens to be one of our customers; however, it is not the case for 2009. But this is OK, because Peter has helped our customers make money by selling their bandwidth for them,” Le Gall said. “Even though he is something of a newcomer to our industry, Peter has found a home in the satellite sector, and helped it to flourish. During the past year, as financial markets around the world suffered, CapRock posted record revenues under Peter’s leadership.”
Another highlight of tonight’s reception was a cake-cutting ceremony in honor of Arianespace’s 30th anniversary – which is being celebrated this year. The cake was presented by Clayton Mowry, president of the Washington, D.C.-based Arianespace, Inc. affiliate.
