CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall is nominated for an Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine 2007 Laureate award
January 4, 2007
Arianespace CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall has once again received high-level aerospace industry recognition for his professional accomplishments - this time being nominated for an Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine Laureate award for his role in bringing Ariane 5 to maturity as the world's leading commercial workhorse launch vehicle.
The prestigious U.S.-based publication named Le Gall as part of a European team that developed Ariane 5's recovery plan after the launcher failed on its initial test flight, prior to the vehicle's service entry with Arianespace.
Also included on the nominated Laureate team with Le Gall are European Space Agency Director General Jean-Jacques Dordain, François Auque, Chief Executive Officer of Astrium SAS and Yannick d'Escatha, the Chairman of France's CNES national space agency.
”Eschewing quick-fix solutions, the team opted for an across-the-board review that addressed not only the technical failure that led to the mishap, but also the entire development and production and financial underpinnings of the Ariane 5 program,” explained the Aviation Week & Space Technology nomination in the magazine's January 1, 2007 issue.
The Ariane 5's subsequent successes have ”put new luster into Arianespace's claim that it is the most reliable, cost-effective commercial launch provider,” the magazine concluded.
The final choice of 2007 Laureate winners from Aviation Week & Space Technology's field of candidates in seven sectors will be announced on March 20 during an awards ceremony at the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington, D.C.
Aviation Week & Space Technology established its Laureate awards 50 years ago to honor individuals and teams for inspiring achievements in the space and aviation sectors. The choices are based on a rigorous nomination process that screens candidates from around the world.
