The influential U.S. weekly magazine Space News has named Arianespace Chief Executive Officer Jean-Yves Le Gall as one of the world's 10 people who have made a difference in the space sector during 2006.
This recognition, which was published in the magazine's most recent issue, cites Le Gall's leadership in bringing the heavy-lift Ariane 5 into reliable commercial operation, as well as his role in creating the innovative Launch Services Alliance mission assurance industrial grouping.
Looking to Arianespace's future, Space News underscored Le Gall's plan to develop a complete commercial launcher family for Arianespace by introducing both the medium-lift Soyuz and lightweight Vega launch vehicles at the Guiana Space Center, which are to join Ariane 5 in operations from this facility.
In its annual "10 Who Made a Difference in Space" review, Space News underscored Arianespace's reinforced competitive position in the commercial launch services market today, concluding: "...Le Gall deserves the lion's share of credit..." for this accomplishment.
The Space News recognition is the second time in 2006 that Arianespace's Chief Executive Officer has been cited for his leadership. Earlier this year, Le Gall was named "Satellite Executive of the Year" by Via Satellite Magazine, which acknowledged his management excellence at the helm of Arianespace and Starsem during 2005 – a year when the two companies set the pace for the world's commercial launch services sector.
