On February 13th the first Vega successfully launched from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana. The maiden flight of the lightweight vehicle deployed two scientific satellites and seven picosatellites in Low Earth Orbit. Congratulations to the European Space Agency on this historic mission placing Vega along side Ariane 5 and Soyuz to open the “Power of 3” era for Arianespace.

In 2011, the workhorse Ariane 5 orbited nine spacecraft in five missions, including its largest ever payload, the 20-metric-ton Johannes Kepler Automated Transfer Vehicle, and eight commercial telecommunications satellites. On October 21, Arianespace made history again with the inaugural flight of the legendary Soyuz at the Guiana Space Center. In total, four Soyuz missions, two at the Guiana Space Center and two at Baikonur with Starsem, lofted 20 satellites into orbit. Preparations for the first Vega flight are on track.
