On Ariane Flight VA219, Arianespace carries out its 60th consecutive successful mission with the heavy-lift Ariane 5 workhorse, lofting the fifth and final Automated Transfer Vehicle for the European Space Agency. This spacecraft – with a mass of more than 20 metric tons at liftoff – is also the heaviest payload ever launched by Europe.

Arianespace performs the 250th launch with its complete launcher family of Vega, Soyuz and Ariane-series vehicles. This milestone Ariane 5 liftoff (Flight VA217) successfully orbits ABS-2 for global satellite operator ABS and the French-Italian Athena-Fidus spacecraft.

The latest Annual Report highlights Arianespace’s busy commercial activity in 2013, during which the company expanded its order book backlog with 20 new contract wins – including 15 for geostationary satellites to be orbited by Ariane 5, four dedicated Vega flights and one auxiliary payload that will be lofted by the lightweight Vega vehicle.
Underscoring its leadership position in the commercial launch market, Arianespace performed four missions with the workhorse Ariane 5 – carrying six telecommunications satellites, plus Europe’s fourth Automated Transfer Vehicle for servicing of the International Space Station. Rounding out Arianespace’s 2013 activity from the Spaceport in French Guiana were two Soyuz flights and one with Vega.
